Russell Brand is an English comedian, actor, radio host and youtuber with a history as interesting as his hair. Brand started his career as a comedian and has won numerous awards for his stand up over the years. He then went on to present for MTV on the UK hit TV show Big Brother’s Big Mouth (2004). He then moved onto the big screen with his first film role in St Trinian’s (2207) which then led to an even bigger role in the romantic comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall a year later. It was an undeniable fact that Brand had great on-screen presence which is unsurprising considering he is just as good on stage. He then went onto star in iconic comedies such as Get Him To The Greek (2010) alongside Jonah Hill, did some great voice acting for the Despicable Me (2010-13) film franchise, and even dabbled in a musical appearing in the film production of Rock of Ages (2012) featuring a host of stars such as Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta Jones and even Bryan Cranston – wow! This year Brand surprised his audience with a very serious role in a remake of Death on the Nile where he sported a very, very short new haircut (below).

These days Russell Brand has rebranded and is now a known public activist and campaigner speaking on a wide range of capitalist, political, cultural, and climate issues.  The British comedian cleaned up his life and has gone on a journey of self-discovery. Brand is now very spiritual. He is interested in personal change, awakening, the soul, as well as ways to improve your personal well-being through meditation, clean living and using natural remedies. A perfect candidate to be using our all-natural, ethically sourced NO GUNK products if there ever was one.

So, we at NO GUNK have put together a style guide on how you can recreate a few of Russell Brand's most iconic looks. Read on to find out how…

    Hairstyle 1: Long layers

It’s hardly surprising that we’re going to delve into some long hairstyles when it comes to Russell Brand. The man has been rocking the luscious long locks since long before I was born and it’s easy to see why. This man oozes British rock-god energy from the hair to the stubble on his chin. This look does require growing your hair out for a little while to get the required length.

    How To Cut:

Head to the salon for this cut and ask for a decent trim and some layers. Your stylist needs to separate your hair into sections as this will make the hair easy to manage then pointcut into the hair just under shoulder length to give it that natural looking finish. Next they need to cut in a few long layers at a sharp angle between 8-10 inches. This will give your hair that nice volume and some face framing.

    How To Style:

    • For long hair you want to make sure you keep everything clean. So, start by deep shampooing your scalp in the shower with an all-natural and sulphate free shampoo just like the Fig Barbary Natural Shampoo. Then once you have finished lathering let the hot water rinse the shampoo out of your hair and down the length of your hair. No matter how tempted you may be do not rub the shampoo suds through the length of your hair. Longer hair is more fragile and is more prone to breakage when in water.
    • Now hop out of the shower and gently press your hair with a soft towel. Do not rub the hair vigorously to dry it or it could cause split ends. Some people do not like to towel dry and just let their hair air dry, either option is good. You want to get your hair to the point where it is damp but no dripping.
    • Now it is time for the product. For long hair you will want to use a hair cream as it is light in consistency and will help tame any stray hairs once the drying process is finished. So, scoop up a pea sized amount of the Funky Flex Cream and work it throughout the hair. To create those lovely waves that Brand has twists bits of your hair around your finger as you go and let them fall.
    • Finally, you will need a hairdryer which you can set to a medium heat. Then blow dry your hair until it is no longer damp. As you are drying your hair, lift and scrunch the ends to help keep the integrity of the curls you have created and to help give your hair that extra bit of volume this look has going on.

This is a great hairstyle to have and goes really well with a bit of stubble or a beard.

    Hairstyle 2: Man bun

Everybody loves a man bun. Especially a long-haired fella. It has been sported by footballers such as Bale and Ibrahimovic to actors like Brad Pitt and Jared Leto. It is the easy way to wrangle that messy hair.

    How To Style

    • For this style start off with damp, towel dried hair.
    • Next, scoop up a pea-sized amount of Funky Flex Cream and apply the product throughout your hair. This will help tame those stray hair and give your hair some hold that will help it stay in place once you have tied it up.
    • Now, grab your hairdryer and set it to a medium heat. You’re going to wait to completely dry your hair. Tying your hair with anything tight or elasticated when wet can cause stress which leads to your hair breaking. Think about Gareth Bale’s bald patch. Not a look.
    • Now grab your bobble, hair tie or scrunchie (whatever you prefer) and scoop your hair up into a ponytail. From this point you’ll want to twist the hair around and around until it forwards a messy bun at the crown of your head. Now fasten your hair in place with the bobble and -wallah! – you’re all done.
