    Vitamin D Description:

Vitamin D, also known as the ‘sunshine vitamin’, is a fat soluble vitamin that has antioxidant and skin-soothing benefits for skin. Vitamin D is formed in the skin by sunlight, specifically by unprotected exposure to UVB radiation. However, you can get vitamin D from fortified foods and oral supplements which is the prefered method in comparison to exposing yourself to the sun without sunscreen. Vitamin D contributes to skin cell regrowth, skin repair and metabolism boosts. Vitamin D enhances the skin immune system and destroys free radicals which can cause premature ageing. Vitamin D is proven to improve the appearance of drying skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema but it is not understood how. Vitamin D stimulates hair follicles which can encourage healthy new growth and a shiny coat. If you do not have enough vitamin D, or suffer from a vitamin D deficiency, your hair can suffer and a lack of this vitamin has been linked to alopecia.
